Porto goalkeeper and candidate for the Spanish football association Iker Casillas and La Liga President Javier Tebas had a back-and-forth on Twitter regarding the league schedule amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Casillas proposed to align the league with the solar year given that the Qatar World Cup in 2022 will be played in November. "If everything goes well, in 3-4 months we'll play the rest of the season. And in the month of December, the finals of Champions and Europa League will be played. We'll adapt like that."
Tebas did not like this proposal and has recently expressed desire to close the league until June 30. "New dates have already been indicated that will allow us to finish the year. Delaying the end and beginning with the solar year means to lose a season. What would happen with TV contracts, with the players, signed for different years, that represent millions of euros?"
This theme has also been a hot topic for UEFA President Ceferin. The options are currently being studied to play in July and August, if necessary, depending on the restart dates of national authorities.
