After beating Bologna at home, Roma picks up their fourth win in their previous five Serie A games. Now that the ‘giallorossi’ sit alone in that second place, their goal is now to try and challenge Juventus for first. El Shaarawy spoke to Sky Sport to discuss his current form:
‘Since day one at Roma my level has been decent. Even though this season I haven’t been as good, as a team and as a group we’re doing well, which is the only thing that matters. Spalletti? He gave me trust from the start. He wants more continuity from me, and even some help covering in defence. I always listen, and I’m sure that thanks to him I’ll improve even more’.
On Roma’s Serie A aspirations: ‘We have enough potential to compete with anyone, even with Juve. We have the best attack in Serie A, with more continuity we can achieve great things. Our secret? We’re all in good shape, and Dzeko has regained the ability to score consistently: A huge plus for us’.
A comment on their next adversaries: ‘Atalanta is a good team. I’ve had Gasperini as a coach so I know his greatness. It’ll be a tough game, but all we want is the three points. Salah? His absence in January is a big one, but I’ll be ready as usual’.
A final comment on the national team: ‘I appreciate what Ventura had to say about me, even though I would have loved to get a call up now. All I can do is work hard for the next International break’.
