Roberto Donadoni knows a thing or two about managing the Italian national team considering he replaced Marcelo Lippi on the Azzurri’s bench back in 2006. The former Bologna coach discussed Roberto Mancini’s work in a recent interview with Radio Anch’Io Sport:”Does the national team lack a prolific scorer? It’s true there is some difficulty scoring, but I don’t think it’s a significant issue. We need to be patient, but they are all strikers who know how to score in our league and so I don’t see a true problem. Cutrone and Kean? There’s some logic to this idea, but we need to be patient with them”
Donadoni believes the strikers aren’t the only ones responsible for this:”We are certainly lacking the goals from other players: including the midfielders. Wingers and midfielders that know how to insert themselves change things and need to be there. Despite fact I like our current midfield, they don’t have much scoring ability. I do like the double playmaker with Jorginho-Verratti, but obviously we can expect more game in and game out
