Antonio Conte is ready for his new experience in England at Chelsea. The manager has already began the preseason training with the squad. In his first press conference the former Juventus manager presents himself like this:
“I’m very happy to be here, it’s a pleasure. I can’t wait to start this new season with Chelsea, it’s a new chapter of my life. The Premier League is the hardest league in the world and I’m very excited for it. The title? Five or Six teams can win it and we are amongst these, I’m proud to be the Chelsea manager. This is only my second day but I’ve seen very motivated players, with the right mentality and great desire to fight for the shirt, so they can then also fight for the title”.
“Terry is the team captain, a great player with personality and charisma. When a player deserves to play, with me he plays. John renewed in May and I’m happy. The pressure isn’t important for me, I was born under pressure. Last season wasn’t positive for Chelsea, but now we have to think about the present, to build something important in the future”.
“We are amongst the best clubs in this country and we have to fight to win the title. We’ve already worked under diverse aspects, I’m trying to make the lads understand my idea of football. We have to transmit our passion to the fans. When I was in Italy I used to say the manager is like a tailor, who needs to knit the best clothes for his team”.
Speaking of the eventual formation: “Three man defense or four man defense, it’s not important. What matters is the spirit and organization of the team. I don’t know if this is the biggest challenge of my career. I arrived at Juve after two consecutive seven placed tournaments. We then won the Serie A for three years”.
“It is the right moment for me to arrive in England, in this tournament. I like this, I like the challenge, to prove [myself]. I am sure together we can achieve great satisfaction at the end of the season.I am a worker. I know only this road to win. I found the right attitude and behaviours in Cobham. I'm very happy for this. Batshuayi? He’s young, but very strong and technical. He uses both feet well, I’m very happy”.
“I’m very passionate about football. I suffer during matches and I want the fans and the players to see it. We work hard to reach our objectives. My idea of football? Run more than your opponents, you have a better chance to win. Why I left the national team? I decided after the Euro qualifiers, I wanted to return to breathing football every day. I have this opportunity at Chelsea, a top club, and I’m very happy to have found this solution”.
Someone then tries to ask about transfers and more… “The Premier League has excellent managers. I think it’s very important for a manager and for the player’s growth. It’s a huge battle against other great managers and great teams. Transfers? We need players that marry our philosophy, but I don’t want to make names, it’s not right. I prefer speaking of my lads”.
“ I felt the responsibility to represent Italy at the Euros, I tried to implement our traditions. Ranier? I will call him soon. He’s a lovely man, I’ll ask him for advice. I’m very happy for this first press conference and I’m very proud to work here”.
