Just about a month ago, speculations about his sacking started coming to light. Today, Antonio Conte is the king of London, or at least of Stamford Bridge. Chelsea now sits top of the table with 28 points in the first 12 match days: Hard to imagine a better scenario. The Italian coach spoke about his current situation to La Gazzetta dello Sport:

“I’m happiest for the players. Being first is not only a reward for our hard work, but it’s a sign that we’re on the right path. We can’t forget however that one month ago, things were looking bleak after losing to both Liverpool and Arsenal. The rest of the season won’t be easy: There are six teams fighting for the title, only one will win. This may be the toughest Premier League of all time. When you battle with teams like Manchester City, Tottenham, and Manchester United, it tells you there aren’t other leagues with this kind of competition”.

Moses, Diego Costa and Hazard are all key players for his Chelsea: “Moses? I knew his potential from the first day of preseason. He’s got technique, strength, pace: I can’t believe how undervalued he has been. Diego Costa is one of the best strikers on the planet. He’s more than a goal scorer to us. The improvement in his temperament is a testament to his dedication. Hazard? Everyone knows his talent. He’s a great guy and has a surprising maturity level for his age”.

On the transfer market: “Defence? The current squad is complete, it’s still too early to discuss. Fabregas and Oscar? All gossip. I have no intentions of letting them go”.

Conte also discusses Juventus and the fundamental difference between Italy and England: “When you have the 8th highest payroll in the world you’re obligated to look beyond just Serie A. With that team you have to have ambitious goals. The difference between Italian and English football? In Italy everything is demanded instantly. People want instant results but overlook the importance of infrastructure. In England going to the stadium is a pleasure. A return to Italy? Absolutely, but right now my career is all about Chelsea”.
