After announcin hir retirement from football, Cassano discussed his future goals in an interview with 'Il Secolo XIX' : "I'd like to work in football, maybe as sporting director, or scout. I admire Piero Ausilio and Sassuol's Giovanni Rossi. I have never worked as sporting director, so I cannot tell yet if I'm good at it or not, but I'd like to help develop a project, following my instinct. Of course I have to find someone that has faith in me first. Sampdoria? Absolutely. Ferrero is very smart, I like jìhim, he knows his way around things. Romei reminds me of Galliani."

The 'Pibe de Bari' also made a comparisone between the Serie A when he started and now: "When I made my debut in 1999 a team that was in a relegation battle like Reggina had the likes of Pirlo, Cozza and Baronio. What has changed? There's a time for everything. Back then Italian football had many number 10, like Baggio, Del Piero, Totti and myself, but also great defenders. If Icardi had been at Inter in 1999 he would have had Ronaldo and Vieri as teammates. Who do you think would have played between them?"
