While attending an event in Montecarlo as a guest, Fabio Capello gave his thoughts on Italian teams in Europe. Given the importance of the match, he couldn’t avoid mentioning Napoli and their fixture with Real Madrid:
“It’s going to be difficult for both teams, I doubt the final result can be taken for granted. Napoli is in shape, perhaps they’re currently in better form than the Spanish side. Real? I commentated their game on Saturday against Osasuna and they didn’t do well. They’re clearly not at their best, despite being in the front seat to win La Liga as Barcelona seem to have their head in the Champions League. Will they play with 5 at the back? Are you joking? If you do that at the Bernabeu, you get whitsled. Napoli is going to have to press high to put Real Madrid in a tough spot.”
Who does the Italian coach see as favorites? “Impossible to say because the first game will be played at the Bernabeu, a very different setting to most. You need a stellar performance to avoid defeat, with Napoli basically forced to overachieve. With Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema, the Spaniards have lethal forwards at their disposal. Zidane will have to be wary of counter attacks though. Right now, Napoli is in better shape both physically and tactically.”
