Cagliari have replaced their coach Maran midway through what started as a promising season for the Sardinian club. At the press conference to introduce Zenga as new coach, Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini spoke about his wishes for his squad. "I met with my sporting director, the only name that he stated was Zenga. After the match we called him, he was in Dubai, and the morning after he was in our offices. My state of mind today is different with respect to the coach, who wants to bring the enthusiasm back. We need a couple wins to save us, we hope that Zenga will achieve that as soon as posisble. Today I'll say only that we must save face, we've been a laughing stock. Both on and off the pitch there have been serious errors in our attitude, today I reclaim the team. We feel lots of bitterness, everyone understands. Maran was an empty coach in the last few games who gave little. The league assembly? Postponing 5 matchs until May 13 would be folly. Whoever in Lega Calcio thought of making a statement without advising the clubs must be held responsible."
