Cagliari are in 10th place in the Serie A and dreaming big. One of their secrets? Theeir "bowl," the Sant'Elia. In their home games, it turns int an impregnable fortress: all of their 10 points have come at home this season. Another secret? Their coach, Massimo Rastelli. President Tommaso Giulini revealed these secrets and more toLa Gazzetta dello sport:
"He demonstrated that he knows how to read the games and is good at managing them. But here, there is the strength of a group in which everyone feels important.
The debut of Pisacane was a beautiful surprise, and he earned it. You earn to play here. Rastelli has never been in doubt. He has to do something more in away matches. The best buys in January will be Ionita and Joao Pedro. Bad luck? We've even called Don Carlo, a priest who is very close to us. We need a blessing here. In terms of away matches, I haven't liked the team. We have to change pace, and I hope we can start with Inter already. The Sant’Elia has brought us to 10 points and this is an important fact for us."
Borriello? He's like a fine wine, getting better with age: "I saw what he did with Atalanta last year, I know their d.s. Capozucca very well. He changed his lifestyle, relying on a nutritionist and other specialized people. I think that like Zanetti and Totti he can play well until he's 40 years old. Storari? The coach was right: he didn't like the situation, and he resolved it with Storari in the most intelligent way possible by giving the captain's armband to Sau. We don't believe that this should set a precedent by any means. Marco primarily said that perhaps this group would not have supported a different choice. He preferred to take a step back, and the team took action. Now Sau has the armband, a very strong Sardinian who guided us in Serie B. And soon, capitan Dessena will return."
The next few games will show that the rossoblù could aspire for something more than just salvation: "A point against Inter? We hope, but now I want to get two or three points from the games against Inter, Fiorentina, and Lazio. Inter e Milan in Chinese hands? It makes me sad: I see lots of business but little passion. If Moratti returns to be president? I would be very happy. We are at the beginning of a project that involves Olbia and all of the land: nothing Chinese. Stadium? We're expecting that the zoning variants are going to be approved. We will play in a stadium of 16,000 next to the Sant’Elia, and in 2020 we want to return to a Sant’Elia of 24,000 seats. To do this expansion, we have to arrive at a total of 60 million: half through bank debt, and the other half through our team and the manufacturer. Additional resources will come from the sale of commercial space and our naming rights. We are in negotiations."
