A tragic moment for Serie A, the death of Davide Astori, Fiorentina's captain, is being paid tribute to by many around the game. Gianluigi Buffon, one of the elder statesmen of the sport and a close friend of Astori, posted a message on Instagram bidding farewell:
"Ciao dear Asto,
It has been difficult for me to publicly express a thought about a person, because I always felt that the beauty and individuality of each relationship, of mutual respect and affection, would be better not to be a tool for those who would not have the respect for our personal ties.
In your case, I feel I must make an exception to my rule, because you have a young wife and a family who are suffering, but also mainly for your young baby girl, who deserves to know that her father was in all respects a good, honest man... a terrific, great, honest man... you were the greatest expression of a man from a world gone by, in your values of charity, elegance, education, respect for others, the qualities of the best men of the past.
You have my everlasting respect, you where one of the greatest figures in sports I ever competed against.
