Despite his incredible start to the season, for Ex-Roma striker Abel Balbo there is no comparison: Batistuta, “The Lion King”, is incomparable even to this years Dzeko. The Bosnian may have broken Batitusta’s goal scoring record so far from 2001, but the Argentine striker had a way with finding the back of the net like no other. He spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport on the subject:
“Honestly, the difference between the two is astronomical. This is not to take anything away from Dzeko, it’s just simply that Batistuta is Batistuta. Perhaps Dzeko has more technical ability and is more involved in the teams buildup. Batistuta however was a complete striker: He had strength, a cracking shot, strong personality and leadership skills. He scored, but he also led the team forward with his desire and determination. You could depend on him, he wouldn’t have a bad season.”
But can Roma seriously contend the title this year: “If Dzeko continues to score at this rate, Roma is the only real contender against Juventus. Spalletti criticized Dzeko? In theory it doesn’t make sense, but you have to see the context of things. Sometimes it can be strategic criticism to bring out the best in someone. I feel like this is one of those times.”
