Atalanta's Papu Gomez commented on his past and present, speaking in an interview with El Pais. The forward has helped guide Atalanta to important matches both domestically and in the Champions League round of 16. Gomez discussed his current team's philospohies: "Gasperini gives us a lot of freedom in attack, he asks the defenders to sent through balls to break the lines. My skill is dribbling, which is how I can get through in a league as defensive and tactical as Serie A. We are at risk of counterattacks, but this system gives us advantages as well as disadvantages. I score a lot of goals thanks to this. We are strong in involving the whole team."
"At Catania I spent three great years, and in 2013 Inter and Atletico Madrid both wanted me, but both were not in great financial positions so they couldn't meet Catania's demands. I accepted Metalist's offer, where there wer lots of Argentinians, and we played in the Champions League and tripled my pay. But I was terrified that year in Ukraine, it was only worthwhile for the money. Then Atalanta, which was not the same club it is today. Now I am proud to say 'I didn't join a big club, but I helped build a great team together with other people.' Playing in the Champions League now is worth more than playing there in one of the giants."
