Atalanta, Gasperini: "I wouldn't sign for a Europa League spot giving up an hypothetical Champions League one"

Atalanta can enjoy the three points they won against Inter and the four goals they scored. Three important points for a team which seems to be back on the right track, after a difficult start because of some injuries, thanks to a match against a "special" opponent for Gasperini like he told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I have no hard feelings towards the Interisti and I feel sorry so many are angry with me. They have have interpreted my analysis as an attack against Inter, but I was only saying that back at that time, the club wasn't structured to win and they've actually struggled for a few years. They now have the basis to build an important project and, in my opinion, they could be the team to take Juve down. Mourinho? I didn't think his gesture was offensive. Football needs irony. More than his hand, his funny grimace was funny".

The key word for Atalanta has always been "group", Gasperini has talked about some players individually though: "Mancini keeps on scoring and that doesn't surprise me, because he knows how to attack and keep the ball. He fights strongly in our area. He's a defender and he has to learn from Chiellini, Masiello, Toloi... I have to say that the defense gave me the biggest satisfactions last Sunday. Toloi, Djimsiti and Mancini, an unseen back three have played like a starter one.

Barrow has also played very well, he's started strongly but it's never easy to confirm your level. His mind in the right place and the difficulties will help him grow. Ilicic is a great champion who sometimes forget about what's needed to remain one. When he got back from the national team, he was angry and so was I, we talked to each other. Under my gruff ways there is affection though. Gomez? Last year, he's been disappointed because of the national team but he's now serene. He's becoming a real captain. Zapata? If he takes off, Atalanta flies".

Four wins in a row that get Atalanta back in the Europa League zone, three points away from Milan: "We're now looking for confirmation in a very balanced league, far away from Juve. I wouldn't sign for a Europa League spot giving up an hypothetical Champions League one, even if being sure to play in Europe would be great. I always like playing this competition. I wouldn't have signed for a draw against Inter either".
