He probably didn't think he'd have such a good start in the season, he may have dreamed about it and thought it could be so great. Lucas Torreira has conquered everyone's heart at Arsenal in a few months: fans, teammates, club, and Unai Emery. The coach who wanted him and convinced him to move to England can't put his Uruguayan midfielder on the bench anymore.
At 22, he's already played 21 games between league and cups, scored 2 goals, made 2 assists in Premier League and has the love of the fans and the trust of his coach. He's talked about his first months in England to Arsenal's official TV:
"After the season ended at Sampdoria, I had a lot of offers from different clubs. A lot of teams tried to get me but I thought I'd stay in Italy since most of these teams were in Serie A and I never imagined playing in England. Before I left for the World Cup in Russia, I got a call from Emery that surprised me. I knew I deserved it for all the things and the work I've done, but it still surprised me. That phone call made me happy".
"It's not been easy to learn the language and communicate with everyone but I'm quite lucky regarding that aspect too: the coach and the staff are Spanish so it makes my life easier as they explain things to me in Spanish. Adaptation to the new league? It's not easy, the intensity and the quality of the game is really different from Serie A. I also play more here. I only was involved in two competitions in Italy, in Coppa Italia and Serie A, but there are four competitions to play here".
