Luciano Spalletti and Roma are ready to take on Fiorentina in a game that is important to regain a lead on Napoli in the standings. The Italian coach spoke ahead of the game covering several topics in his press conference:
“Juan Jesus is fine and will return to train with the group. Perotti and Vermaelen will be out: We need to understand how to allow Thomas to train. Everyone else is available. In the first game with Fiorentina, certain instances in the match could have been approached differently. We need to add speed to our offensive game, but overall the team has grown mentally.”
The controversies surrounding Roma’s dream of a new stadium has been a hot topic in the last few days: “I said what I said about the stadium to Sky Sport because it is how I feel. Based on examples around the world, having such infrastructure can have a positive influence on the surrounding parts of the city. When you look at the Premier League, or even just London as a city, you see multiple stadiums and facilities, funded by the owners of sports teams. If there are investors ready to spend on the project, it is important that we follow the rules, but it is equally important to understand that foreign investment is not a threat.”
Lastly, a comment on the objectives for this season: “We need to remain attached to our dreams. Juventus is going strong, but we have to believe that anything is still possible. Napoli and Juventus are both teams that force us to keep winning. Gerson with the youth squad? It was my choice. It’s not a punishment at all, he just needs playing time.”
