It was an unforgettable evening inside Rome’s Stadio Olimpico where the Roma faithful paid homage to Francesco Totti after playing his final game in a Roma jersey in a 3-2 win against Genoa which secured Champions League football for his hometown club next season. In his post-match comments to Sky Sport Italia, Luciano Spalletti stated that “there will always be a great party for this great player. It was very emotional for everyone that was present, from the directors to the fans. The cherry on top is that we are in next season’s Champions League after a fundamental victory.” Spalletti added that “when we play these types of games, we knew that it was important to stay alert because there were episodes that could have left a bad taste in our mouths… We faced a spirited Genoa side that contained a lot of youngsters looking to make a good impression for next season.” He also spoke about Totti's future at the club: “In my opinion, he should be the vice president of the club, like the other champions at the other clubs. He is a good man and there is nothing fake about him. He transmits a simplicity and never submits to criticism. This is how he became a leader. Whenever there was a perceived limitation, he always reacted to overcome them.”

Spalletti concluded with a comment on his future: “I have to speak to the club. I always said that I would finish this last step. It is justified that I would reflect on our discussions.”
