In the match against Huesca, Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane gave a Blancos debut to Brahim Diaz, who joined the club in the summer from Manchester City, and to his son Luca Zidane, 1998--born goalkeeper. The 13-times European champions managed to get a 3-2 win against struggling Huesca, closing the gap with Atletico Madrid, sitting in second place, to two points.
In the post-match press conference, the Blancos' manager Zinedine Zidane discussed his decision to start his son ahead of Courtois and Navas: "I am happy for my son and for his debut at the Santiago Bernabéu. But he is still the third-choice keeper. Courtois wasn't feeling well and I wanted to rest Navas, since he had played with Costa Rica. He did well. He has been playing for Real Madrid youth teams for 16 years, he has personality".
The coach was also asked about his decision ont he starting line-up: "We don't do casting here, I'm here to try and win every game. After the international break players want to rest a bit and I had some other players that had stayed here to train with me for 15 days. I don't believe in the fact that you win titles with just 11 players, it's impossible to play only 11 players for 60 games. This is how I look at it and I'm always trying to start the best possible side.", concluded Zidane.
