Mauro Icardi recently spoke about his desire to stay at Inter: "I am a fan of Inter, and the captain of this team. For this reason, I hope to have a long career with these colors. Yes, I would like to finish my career here. I expect a lot from the new Inter. We have the potential to do great things, and the club is doing everything to make this possible. We are ambitious and want to return to the top where we were until recently. During the transfer market the management will improve the team further by acquiring players with the right experience to help us succeed. Are we ready for the Champions League? That is the objective. I would like to play in that competition with this jersey. I am only 24 years old and can still improve and grow in many different ways. Playing inside the box is my strength; sometimes it is said that I am not a team player, but I have recently improved at giving assists. My best quality? Scoring. How many goals do I hope to score? I always try to score as much as possible, but it is difficult to give a precise number. Would it be better to win the scudetto or to surpass Higuain's goal scoring record? Winning the Scudetto without question. Then it is obvious that by scoring more, it will make it easier to win the title."

The Inter striker then spoke about the upcoming derby against Milan, the only team Icardi has not scored against in Serie A: "To score in such a special game would be fantastic. I really hope to score especially because it is the only team I have not yet scored against. Juventus, however, is one of my preferred victims. I am an Interista, and therefore, I very much enjoy to score against Juventus. Furthermore, to score against the strongest team is an important signal. My past? When I was at Barcelona, I would have liked to play with Ronaldinho. It was great to see all those champions; I would watch their training sessions from my apartment window. My idol? I have always looked up to Batistuta whom I admire a lot and do not compare to anyone. Among current players, Messi is the strongest. Then there is Ronaldo. They are not normal players."

Icardi concluded by discussing Pioli: "Pioli changed our mentality. With his arrival everything changed. He has the capability to manage every moment regardless of whether it is good or bad. He changed the way we express ourselves. Now everyone is happy."
