Both on and off the pitch, Gonzalo Higuain has not been afraid to show his human side. The Argentine striker was forthcoming about his fears and insecurities in a recent interview with Marca in which he revealed an intriguing backstory:"After the World Cup final in 2014 I had decided to retire after the game, but my mother convinced me to change my mind, she told me that I had to continue. Had it been up to me I would have certainly closed it with football. I love football, but I love my mother more, but she told me that she wouldn't let me quit for her"
Higuain also explained that life for athletes can be difficult:"It's now fourteen Christmases that I spend with fourteen different people, my mother needs to travel for fifteen hours to come see me. Certainly I can pay for her ticket, but it's not like she can be here in ten minutes. Everyone judges what you do on pitch without thinking about the rest, it's too much, but by now I'm used to it"
