He's been one of the main protagonists in Inter's Triplete season. 30 goals this year for "Il Principe". Important goals, like the one against Roma in the Coppa Italia final, or the brace against Bayern Munich that gave Inter the Champions League win. Racing Avellaneda, Genoa and Inter, the three jersey that made his career and his heart.
Diego hasn't forgotten where all started though: "I began to play in my Quilmes neighborhood. The Italian football was Napoli for me, we'd meet the Sunday morning to see Maradona's Napoli". Then, at 9, a transfer to the team he supported, Racing Avellaneda: "My two years older cousin brought me there, I've made it all the way there until my debut in the first team in 1999".
Half Argentinean, half Italian. Diego doesn't hide it: "My grandparents from my father side were Calabresi and I've grown up with them. I've always felt that double identity, I'm an Argentine but also Italian. Genoa? They've changed my life, it's been a difficult challenge. I knew I had to be mentally strong".
Then, a transfer to Inter and a definitive consecration: "When I arrived, I've immediately understood the goal was to win the Champions League, and we succeeded. The Triplete Inter was so strong, it was a group made of champions. My second goal at the Bernabeu stadium was the most beautiful in my career. Mourinho got the best out of every player, he's one of the best".
He then talks about the derby: "The 4-0 of my Inter surely was one of the best games in the season. It's a particular game, you win it with concentration and grinta. Lautaro could be decisive".
About Messi: "He's stronger than CR7, it's not fair saying he's not a winner. It's also an error comparing him to Maradona. Being coached by Maradona was a great emotion".
