Fabio Cannavaro, who became the manager of the Chinese National Football Team last week, has lost his first match in charge of the nation in the 2019 China Cup semi-final. A 1-0 loss, it was suffered against 120th FIFA ranked Thailand thanks to a Chanathip Songkrasin goal in the 33rd minute: the player took advantage of a Thitipan Puangchan low cross and beat keeper Junling Yan with a precise right-footed shot. China had a lot of ball possession, however, were unable to test the Thai goalkeeper. Now, 45-year-old Cannavaro will now have to try and refocus the mindset of the team, as they try to obtain a third spot finish: this will be against one of Uruguay or Uzbekistan on Monday.

The last match for China was back on January 20th in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup against Iran. The nation lost 3-0, resulting in Marcello Lippi leaving his position as manager; China selected Fabio to take over until further notice, however, still allowing him to remain as the manager of Guangzhou Evergrande.
