Allegri: ‘The key match is versus Lyon. Higuain? I could bench him…’

Max Allegri doesn’t appear phased as we approach this weekends big match between Juventus and Napoli: ‘It’s still early in the season, tomorrows game is not decisive. It would be if we were in the second half of the season. The key game for us is Wednesday against Lyon, where we aim to close out our group. Higuain? This game will definitely mean a lot to him. I can either play him or not, either choice is acceptable. So far he can still do better and we have to help him to get better, but I’m satisfied with his work. What matters isn’t that Higuain scores every week, but that Juventus achieves all their goals’.

On the potential lineup: ‘I have to be very careful with Marchisio, i'll make my choice based on the conversation I’ll have with him. Lichsteiner? He’s a professional, he might play. Cuadrado? Right now we only have two options upfront, I’ll have to evaluate everything considering we play on Wednesday. Juve’s strength is having changed a lot of formations without losing its standards’.

So far Juventus hasn’t been very successful in big matches: ‘What matters is coming first in the league. With Sampdoria we did very well, but with Inter and Milan we have very strange matches. At the end of the day results are the only thing that matter, but then when results come people demand beautiful football. If you want to see a spectacle you go to the circus’.

Allegri on Napoli: ‘Higuain? He made his choice, everything comes to an end. Napoli fans need to be thankful to Higuain for everything he’s done, but the same goes to Gonzalo. Sarri’s team is one of the best, they’re definitely in the fight for the ‘scudetto’. How to beat them? Blocking any possibility they may have at counter attacking us. We also have to play the ball efficiently, and attack their defensive line’.
